Workers' compensation can ease money concerns after injuries

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health has launched an investigation into possible safety violations at an air conditioning company. This follows a severe workplace injury that sent a worker to a Sacramento hospital with life-threatening injuries. The state-regulated workers' compensation system will likely ease this victim's concerns about finances and his ability to care for his family.

Reportedly, the man tripped and fell through a skylight, landing on a truck approximately 35 feet below. Co-workers came across the worker who appeared to be unresponsive and not breathing. Fortunately, even though he also struck a metal toolbox, he survived the fall. However, his injuries are expected to prevent him from returning to work for a year or longer.

Authorities say the worker will likely need a wheelchair for at least two months due to the compression fractured he suffered in his vertebrae. Further injuries include a severe laceration behind his ear and multiple broken bones. The fractures include his hip, femur, pelvis, skull, thumb and elbow. A family member says the injured worker expressed concern over his family's welfare during his months of recovery.

The availability of financial assistance through the California workers' compensation system should ease this injured worker's anxiety. An experienced attorney can assist with the benefits claims process, which in this case might involve more than just doctors' bills and lost wages. If this worker's injuries cause permanent disability, additional benefits might be awarded. The lawyer will focus on securing the payment of maximum benefits under applicable laws for the client.
